A Familiar Window, Done Right

Hung windows are the style most people picture when they picture a window. A single hung window has a fixed top sash and a bottom sash that slides up. A double hung lets both sashes move so that you can open from the top, the bottom, or both. That flexibility matters in Florida, where you want ventilation without letting the weather in.

Got Questions?
We've Got Answers

Find clear answers to the questions we hear most often, from how our process works to what you can expect along the way. We’ve gathered the key details here to help you feel informed, confident, and ready to take the next step.
What is a double-hung window, and how does it work?

A double hung window has two sashes that both slide vertically inside the frame. You can lower the top, raise the bottom, or open both at once. Most double-hung units also tilt inward so that you can clean the outside glass from inside the house. It's a simple design that's been around forever because it works.

Are double-hung windows good for Florida homes?

Yes, as long as they're spec'd and installed for the climate. We use frames and weatherstripping built to handle heat and humidity, and you can add impact-rated glass for storm protection. The double sash design also gives you real control over airflow, which helps on the milder Gulf Coast days when you'd rather open up than run the AC.

How much do double hung windows cost to replace?

It depends on the size, the frame material, the glass package, and how many you're doing. Impact glass costs more up front, but can lower your insurance premiums and your energy bills. The honest answer is that we'd rather look at your actual windows and give you a real number than quote you a range that turns out to be wrong. Get a free quote, and we'll price it out.

Are double-hung windows available with impact-rated glass?

They are. We install double hung units with impact-rated glass that meets Florida building code, so the same window that ventilates your home also protects it during a storm. That's usually the setup we recommend on the coast.

How do double-hung windows compare to single-hung windows?

The difference is the sashes. On a single hung, only the bottom moves, and the top is fixed. On a double hung, both move and both usually tilt in for cleaning. Single hung costs a bit less and seals just as well. Double hung gives you more airflow options and easier cleaning, especially upstairs. We'll help you decide which makes sense, room by room.

Are double-hung windows easy to clean and maintain?

Very. The tilt-in sashes let you wipe down the exterior glass without a ladder, which is the main reason people upgrade to them on second stories. Beyond that, a good vinyl or aluminum frame needs almost nothing besides an occasional wash.

Where do you offer double hung window installation near Bradenton, FL?

We serve all of Manatee and Sarasota counties, with Bradenton as our home base. If you're in the area and you're not sure whether we cover your community, just ask when you call.

The Classic Window, Done Right

Single and Double Hung Windows

Single and double-hung windows are the classic American window, and there's a reason they show up on so many homes in Bradenton and the surrounding areas. They open vertically, they suit almost any architectural style, and they're simple to live with. The difference between the two is straightforward: a single hung has one moving sash at the bottom, while a double hung lets the top and bottom sashes both slide. Which one is right comes down to how you plan to use the window.
